Have you heard the news? There is a new hair salon in town! Located on Chicago’s south side, Hair Love Art Studio is a salon that specializes in natural hair. Aeleise Mitchell the owner opened the salon because she felt there was lack of stylists and salons that cater to women with curly textured hair. I became acquainted with Aeleise after frequently running into her at industry events. I started to follow her on Twitter, I loved that we share the same belief in beauty education being a critical part of customer care. Although Aeleise’s primary clientele consists of kinky coily textures, she does silk press styling and is one of few hair stylists in the city of Chicago that is DevaCurl Certified.

If you have never experienced DevaCurl it is worth making an appointment just to experience the unique cutting technique. People often ask me if I can recommend a salon for natural hair styling, I have always been hesitant to do so because I like to personally try out any stylist I refer. I finally got a chance to sit in Aeleise’s chair back in September, I loved my devacut. Aeleise and I have partnered to offer clients the best in hair care, makeup, skincare and waxing services. Since joining the team at HLA it has been great to see up close and personal some of the beautiful styles that are created at HLA on a weekly basis.
Not only is the salon a great place to get your hair styled but HLA also believes in giving back to the community. This past Saturday HLA hosted CURLS FOR A CAUSE, an event with the purpose of raising funds for breast cancer awareness. Clients were treated to refreshments, pink extensions, and of course lots of curlfriend conversation.
