A few weeks ago at America’s Beauty Show, I had the pleasure of meeting celebrity hair stylist Kim Kimble. Kim was at the show promoting the new season of WE tv’s hit show LA Hair, and her new product line Kimble Beauty. Sometimes when you meet someone so well known you have expectations of them being impersonal and lots of diva attitude. Kim was none of those! I loved how she really took her time and spoke with me about that famous wig she created for Oprah, her product line at Target and of course we chatted about the TV show. I honestly feel like if was ever in LA I could just pick up the phone and go have coffee with her.She is that cool.

In the weeks following America’s Beauty Show Kim sent me the mother of all natural hair gift baskets. I mean most companies send a few products (which I am always grateful for) but Kim’s package included the entire Kimble Beauty collection which came with a grooming brush and even a silk sleeping cap. What more could a naturalista need? I immediately began to experiment with the products because I have to admit, I’ve seen them on the shelves at Target and have wanted to try them. Check out my top picks from the Kimble Beauty collection in today’s video tutorial AND I even got Kim to answer a few questions for me! 🙂

What are some of the latest trends for natural hair?

We’re seeing less-defined, fluffier curls, more like a natural afro. Another trend we’re seeing is natural hair cut or styled in bold shapes, like Solange’s hair at Coachella. Braids incorporated into the hair are also a big trend, giving a fresh, new twist to traditional style.

How did you come up with the Kimble Beauty product line and what makes it different from others on the market?

I am a third-generation hairstylist and was inspired to create a product line by my grandmother. She was a big advocate of using natural ingredients and so I have incorporated that philosophy into my products. Great style does not have to come at the expense of healthy hair, and natural ingredients are generally more nourishing and gentler on the hair and the woman! Hydration is also a key to healthy hair and my products are specially formulated with this in mind.

What is the #1 thing naturals can do to help make hair more manageable?

It really is all about hydration and maintenance. Find the right products to moisturize the hair and then maintain that moisture by using silk accessories to keep the hair from drying out. Fabrics like cotton will actually absorb moisture from the hair so using silk products, like silk rollers or silk slumber caps, is extremely important.

What are your suggestions for naturalistas who want to color hair and maybe concerned about damage to their tresses?

Don’t be afraid of color. It can be fabulous! Women just need to know that color will dry out the hair – and curly hair is already dry by nature because it is hard for the oil to make it down the shaft of the hair – so be prepared to make up for that by increasing moisturizing treatments. I recommend hot oil treatments at LEAST twice a month using natural oils such as coconut or avocado and making sure to use products that are designed to hydrate.
